Quinta Do Cardo Grande Escolha

70% TOURIGA NACIONAL, 30% TINTA RORIZ Deep ruby colour. Complex aroma combining resinous notes, eucalyptus and orange blossom, typical of Touriga Nacional in fresh areas with some vegetal notes adding complexity to the set. A structured wine in the palate, powerful and with great aging potential. The aftertaste evoking black fruit and chocolate. Vinification by variety, grapes were de-stemmed without crushing. Touriga Nacional's endured five days of cold maceration with 2 daily delestages for the first 6 fermentation days. Final fermentation in new French oak barrels, where malolactic fermentation subsequently occurred. From “Castelo" vineyard came the best Tinta Roriz grapes of 2011vintage. Those grapes were de-stemmed and gently crushed. One "delestage" and reassembly with daily aeration was done in stainless steel tanks. After 20 months in new French oak barrels the best barrels from each lot were selected for the final blend of this Grande Escolha. The wine was marketed in November 2014 after 18-month aging in the bottle. 6470 bottles were produced.
